BILLABONG WORLD SURFING GAMES

The Billabong 2009 World Surfing Games are going to be in Costa Rica. The dates will be July 31st to August 9th 2009. Tides evaluation has determined that these are the best dates, and it is when the tides will give the opportunity to have more than one surf session per day.

Playa Hermosa in Jaco Beach will be the official site of the World Surfing Games, which is the best spot for surfing. Costa Rica was chosen over other traditional surf shores in Central and South America, and that fact makes us very proud.

World class surfers from 40 different countries will be here to ride our beautiful waves.

The Opening Ceremony starts with a parade of all the competing nations along Jaco main street. This will be followed by the joining of sands from all over the world, in the Sands of the World performance.

For the Closing Ceremony, that will be held the last day of the competition. The streets of downtown Jaco will be closed so everybody can join the party with live music, DJs, and fireworks.

Jose Ureña, President of the FCS said that to be chosen as the oficial site for the World Surfing Games is the best thing that could happen to any country, and in this case the distintion fell on Costa Rica, not only for its high surf level but also because it can rely on a strong hospitality organization.

The country will be able to advertise its beaches and other key locations of Costa Rica, as the ISA estimates that the games will be viewed by at least 80 million persons around the world, and this will no doubt increase Costa Rica's popularity as a surf location.

Last World's games were held in California, and the costarican delegation classified # 8 within the 10 Best Surfers

Jaco land of adventures and city of the surf will be the slogan, which is seeking to radically change the city's outlook and, working together with the city council and private investors, security has been doubled to ensure turists will be able to enjoy their stay safely, so that Jaco beach will be tourists first choice to practice surf and adventurous activities.
