250 Used Computers Needed for School Kids in Costa Rica

Dear Amigos,

Many of you may already know about the great work of the Cahuita Technology Center in the Talamanca region of Costa Rica. The Cahuita Technology Center provides much-needed technology access to some of the poorest rural communities in Costa Rica. These centers equip both children and adults with basic computer literacy, skills and technology access that enable individual, professional, personal and community growth through learning, business development, communication and collaboration. There are now 57 centers reaching over 6,000 children and adults per year in the poorest communities of Costa Rica. Unfortunately, many of the computers were installed in early 2000 and are simply out of date and need to be replaced. In addition, more under-privileged communities are requesting technology centers be established in their areas.

Thanks to the extremely generous time and efforts of a network of individuals in Canada, the Cahuita Technology Center has been offered a donation of 250 refurbished computers, with the newer hardware and software necessary to replace its aging infrastructure, and establish these new centers. However, the Cahuita Technology Center does not have the resources to pay for the expensive shipping costs to get these much-needed computers to Costa Rica.

Amigos of Costa Rica and the CRUSA Foundation have offered a matching grant to help pay for the costs to ship these computers to Cahuita - and we need your help! Every dollar received through Amigos of Costa Rica for this purpose will be matched by the CRUSA Foundation, doubling the impact of your contribution and helping to ensure that the communities served by the Cahuita Technology Center have up-to-date computer resources for their education, training and digital learning programs. Because of the generous support of the CRUSA Foundation, we are able and intend to contribute 100% of your donation toward this project to support shipment of over 250 refurbished computers to establish 20 new technology centers in poor rural communities.
