How can I reach someone if I have additional questions or need help with my reservation?

> You may email us or call 1-877-787-3007 toll free, or (321) 890-5761 internationally or using WhatsApp.

Do I have to know how to surf to attend?

> No you do not need to know how to surf. We hope to divide groups up based on their surf experience so participants don't feel they are going to a spot above or below their ability. Additionally the purpose of the trips is to see the different beach characteristics and levels of land development, and compare/contrast them with your local beach. Non surfers are not expected to surf, but would still benefit from going on the boat trip to Witchs Rock and Ollies Point since they could potentially snorkel or hike along the coast of the Santa Rosa National Park.

What do I gain from attending this retreat?

> You will learn about how local environmental groups are tackling the challenges of a growing beach town located next to a diverse estuary ecosystem. You get to meet other guests from around the world that share your interests in protecting our oceans, waves, and beaches. You will experience most of the surfing beaches around Tamarindo, including Playa Negra, Avellanas, Playa Langosta, and Playa Grande. Participants will learn how to detail beach characteristics such as access, ocean conditions, and flora/fauna found. And you can pick up ideas and solutions to bring back to your local environmental organization.

How does this benefit the Surfrider Foundation?

> Surfrider members are one of the most dedicated activists in their communities, and they are the 'canary in the coal mine' since they visit the ocean and our beaches the most often. However, any ocean related grassroots environmental group from around the world are invited. Participants can learn from each others experiences and gain insight from visiting the beaches around Tamarindo, which has a mix of unique land development and tidal features that can be compared and contrasted to home. Plus, $100 of the cost goes directly to Surfrider's Tamarindo Chapter. They lead local campaigns for cleaner beaches, the lifeguard program, and using less plastic.

What is covered by the travel insurance?

> Travel insurance is covered by the company Travel Insured. The plan is the Worldwide Trip Protector. Each policy covers up to $2000 in expenses, including your flight, transportation, and lodging, along with some emergency services. You can read the complete policy here - LINK.

Can I plan extra days or leave a day early?

> Of course! Costa Rica has a lot of natural beauty to see and you may want to travel south to other beaches or inland to see the volcanos. When you fill out the reservation form, in the comments area include what else you wish to see and how many extra days you want to spend. If you need to leave a day or two early or are getting here late, mention that as well. Unfortunately we cannot offer partial refunds for missed days.

What if my flight gets in late in the evening?

> Our partner hotel, The Adventure Inn, has free transportation to and from the airport, comfortable and safe rooms, and has a delicious free breakfast. They also have offered a 10% when using the code - CRSURF - on your reservation. You can then get picked up directly from there to go to Tamarindo, or have a rental car delivered to the hotel.

What are my transportation options?

>There are 5 options. If you are still uncertain which is best, let us help you with your transportation needs.

Bus - This is the cheapest but takes the longest if you are landing in San Jose (SJO). It costs about $10 and leaves once a day from San Jose around 1 p.m. It leaves Tamarindo for San Jose around 6 a.m. and makes a stop by the airport.

Shared Ride - Shared rides from Liberia airport (LIR) are $20 per person. Shared rides from San Jose (SJO) are $59 per person (surfboard bags are $20/extra). They leave from San Jose at 7:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m (approximate times since they pick up from multiple hotels), and from Tamarindo at 7:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be sure that you leave time to catch it after your plan lands, you go through immigration, baggage claim, and customs.

Private Ride - A private shuttle costs $80 each way from LIR and $300 each way from SJO for two people. Each extra person is $20.

Rental Car or SUV - Rental cars will be reserved through Adobe, with the mandatory insurance included and the collision damage waiver optional. A four door car is about $310 for the week and a small SUV is $450, with taxes and insurance. Prices may vary as we activity search for competitive rates from highly recommended companies.

Flights - Both Sansa and Nature Air have flights from San Jose to Tamarindo, but Nature Air has not been consistent with their flight schedules so it is not recommended at this time to fly with them. Sansa flights are $205 roundtrip at the current date (30-4-18) and leave at three times each day.
