Malakai Martínez is the new Guanacaste Surfing Champion

On a day of unforgettable waves, in one of the best waves in the country – Playa Negra de Santa Cruz, Tamarindo Beach, Malakai Martinez was crowned this weekend, at 18 years of age, as the new Guanacaste Champion of Surfing.
 
The youngest champion in the history of the championship that began in 2013, not only became the Open title winner after three dates in Marbella, Avellanas and now Playa Negra, but he also took the Junior title.
 
This 2019 will be the last year as a junior for Malakai Martinez, one of the best Sub 18 in the history of surfing and the best (by titles) in the history of Playa Tamarindo.
 
In fact for Malakai to take the title, he had to win the finals to local Tiago Carrique also 18, who came very close to the standings next to Puerto Viejo, Angelo Bonomelli. These three basically fought for the title this year.
 
“I’m happy with this title since this is something I had for my goal and finally it was given to me. This year has not been easy, but for that we are among the best to fight for several titles,” said Malakai.

Sobre una inolvidable condición de oleaje, en una de las mejores olas del país como es Playa Negra de Santa Cruz, el de playa Tamarindo, Malakai Martínez se consagró el fin de semana, a sus 18 años de edad, como el nuevo Campeón Guanacasteco de Surf.

El ahora campeón pampero más joven en la historia del campeonato que inició en 2013, no solo se hizo del título Open después de tres fechas en Marbella, Avellanas y ahora Playa Negra, sino que, sin no ser suficiente para él, el título Junior también lo hizo suyo.

Este 2019 será el último año como junior para Malakai Martinez, uno de los mejores Sub 18 en la historia del surfing tico y el mejor (por títulos) en la historia de Playa Tamarindo.

De hecho para Malakai hacerse del título, le tuvo que ganar el pulso al local Tiago Carrique también de 18 años, quien venía muy cerca en la tabla junto al de Puerto Viejo, Ángelo Bonomelli. Estos Tres básicamente se peleaban el título este año.

“Contento con este título es algo que tenía por meta y finalmente se me dio. Este año no ha fue fácil, pero por dicha estamos entre los mejores para dar pelea a varios títulos”, dijo Malakai.

Así concluyó la temporada número siete del Campeonato provincial guanacasteco que promete volver en 2020 para correr de nuevo varias de las playas con mejores olas del país.
