ENVIRONMENT / COMMUNITY

costa-ballena-lifeguard-tower

Recently I volunteered to build a portable lifeguard tower with the help of a local carpenter and friend, Eduardo. It took weeks of planning and fundraising, but only one day to build and paint. This tower ended up on Playa Hermosa de Uvita, where thousands came for Easter Week to celebrate on the beach. There were over a dozen rescues made, but zero drownings. A second tower was built to help the guardavidas in Dominical. This was all possible due to the generosity of our local community. To support the Costa Ballena Lifeguards, visit their website and make a donation. Be a hero to these heroes, it may be your life they save one day.

Book a trip through CRsurf and we will sponsor a tree in your name through Community Carbon Trees. If you decide to sponsor more, find CRsurf as a 'Tree Ambassador'.

AREA REPORTS

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 4/1 - This week is firing and looks good through next week with morning surf tides, off-shores, and ample swell.  The crowds have been unpredictable with some of the best sessions we have seen here in years with only a handful of surfers out.

Tamarindo

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 4/6 - Small conditions in Tamarindo, 1-2ft waves, glassy and calm mornings with a fairly empty line up on the sand bars, winds remain from north most of the days.

Marbella has been our get away to score tubes and into solid 2-3ft waves, all breaks are active, that means mid and low tide sessions.

Paddle boarding in the mornings or mountain biking in the woods are the options while better waves show up.

Local ONG's remain assisting as many as 10.000 people in Guanacaste, your donation if you can will be greatly appreciated. Below are some of the ONG's links you can contact or gofundme.com to donate. for extended lodging expenses due to COVID-19 related illness.

Stay healthy everyone and keep hope for good waves and to resume travel.

Nosara

Surfing NosaraBrayan at SurfingNosara.com - 4/9 - Cloudy morning with super fun wave and nice fresh offshore wind. The size is Shoulder High to Head High.

Check out www.surfingnosara.com for additional photos, further information about activities and upcoming events here in Playa Guiones. Stop by Surfing Nosara office and ask for Brayan or Eli, if you would like to book a private photo session or by any of our pictures.

South Nicoya Peninsula

Mal Pais Surf CamMalpaisurfCam.com - 4/8 - This morning at 7 am waves were waist to chest high. Light off shore wind and mostly cloudy skies. 1-3 feet waves, smaller than the last days, kind of fast and closing out, still good ones on the sets, should get better as the tide get higher.

Jaco / Playa Hermosa

Playa Hermosa

Christina at Surf Inn Hermosa - 4/10 - LOW TIDE EARLY MORNING AND FAIR CONDITIONS  3-5FT

Now offering Surf & Fitness Packages: Surfing, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), yoga, Crossfit , healthy food & plenty of good times included! More information.

Esterillos

esterillos-surf-reportEsterillos Oeste Surf Report - 4/2 - Waves were very fun here this morning, like 3-4 ft with some occasional 5 footers coming thru (chest to head high with some overhead sets) and with high tide in the morn and eve offers a chance for some good surf but with the size Saturday and Sunday maybe kinda messy here. Best to look for some points to clean it up. Looks like Monday and rest of next week will be a smaller but fun size and good tide set up with tide in the mornings.

Southern Pacific

Quepos/Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio Surf SchoolLuis at Manuel Antonio Surf School - 4/2 - AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS (how it looks today): A little Choppy.  BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND (best guess for wave forecast): Playitas  NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: For now we are operating normally. We do have 2 new cabins though, so we can also do surf camps or receive guests. :)

Dominical

Steve at Jazzys River House - 4/2 - Happy 'tow-in' time at Dominical!  Way overhead, thick and dumping hard and mostly clean conditions.  This swell has held on for several days now and doesn't look to be going away soon so it's a big challenge for the lifeguards with the Semana Santa crowds but they're doing a great job as always.  Dominicalito has been taking up the slack with decent bigger than usual surf and really big crowds, especially for sunset sessions.  Playa Hermosa South has been bigger than usual and also clean and consistent and exceptionally crowded.  Haven't heard about conditions at the Point so can't report.  Probably pretty big given the size of the swell in general.

For those looking for unique and original art come visit Ruby-Kim in her home studio/gallery and ask about her popular class.  Learn the traditional arts & crafts techniques of weaving, twining, plaiting and sewing all using local native plant parts.  Make a nice piece of functional art and gain a new life skill.  See Steve if you are in need of relief from body aches and pains as his East/West massage therapy can be most helpful.  Also see Steve for surf lessons and board sales and rentals.  Steve also teaches 'Taoist Yoga' and guitar.

Pavones

Ebenezer Surf and Fishing Boat Trips PavonesLeo at Ebenezer Boat Trips - 4/2 - Mucha ola ahora, poco viento. Olas grandes en Pavones.

Caribbean

Salsa Brava

Caribbean surf forecastSurf Forecast.com - 4/10 - Waves are knee to waist high and inconsistent from a 3.2 feet at 8 seconds swell. Nothing major expected through next week.
