The two best surfers shined in the ENVISION Surf CUP, the start of the 2019 Kölbi National Circuit, held yesterday at Playa Dominical in front of a large number of public, and after qualifying for the finals among an unprecedented number of competitors during the season opener.
Jair Pérez and Leilani McGonagle, who, since Saturday, had shown the level and hunger that led to a wave that did not offer its best quality, but a size and strength sufficient to demand high marks in all categories.
Jair, who just won the final of July before the same Anthony Fillingim, who in that month was proclaimed champion and also reached the final in Dominical, accompanied him together with Tomas King and Olman Morales saw how the “giant killer of Jacó” sent a serious message of his intentions for this season.
With a combination of 11.33, Jair took the first gold of the Circuit and that will make him possessor of the yellow lycra in Cocles, that from now on the sub-national champion of surfing will begin the season of first in the rankings.

Meanwhile Leilani, national champion in 2016, won by an advantage considered a final where she added 11.50 to the current champion Rubiana Brownell who closed second, Lisbeth Vindas third, and Paula Duarte fourth.
As a fact to take into account, the technical direction of the championship is assessing the possibility of including more categories in the Circuit from the next date. This announcement will be announced in the coming days.
In addition, the Surfing Federation confirmed to host the Finals of the Rip Curl Grom Search 2019, a world championship that brings together several of the best juniors in the world. It was already known that the eight best sub-16 of the country after the April date of the CNS will have an invitation to participate.
In this sense the four best Boys (sub 16) and the four best Girls (sub 16), will go directly to the championship that is intended to take place in Playa Jacó in mid-May.
The next stop of the Circuit goes to Cocles beach in Puerto Viejo, on 23 and 24 February the Marley Cup will be held.

Los dos mejores surfeadores del ENVISION Surf CUP, inicio del Circuito Nacional kölbi 2019, se consagraron ayer en Playa Dominical, frente a una cantidad de público importante y después de clasificar a las finales entre una suma inédita de competidores durante la apertura de temporada.
Se trata Jair Pérez y Leilani McGonagle, quienes, desde el sábado, habían mostrado el nivel y hambre que llevaron a una ola que no ofreció su mejor calidad, pero sí un tamaño y fuerza suficiente como para exigir notas altas en todas las categorías.
Jair, que justamente le ganó la final de julio anterior al mismo Anthony Fillingim, que en ese mes se proclamó campeón y que también llegó a la final en Dominical, lo acompañó para que junto a Tomas King y Olman Morales vieran cómo el “mata gigantes” de Jacó enviara un serio mensaje de sus intenciones para esta temporada.
Con una combinación de 11.33, Jair se hizo del primer oro del Circuito y eso lo hará poseedor de la licra amarilla en Cocles, gracias que a partir de ahora el sub campeón nacional de surf empezará la temporada de primero en la tabla.
En esa final, fue el WQS Tomás King quien se le pegó más a Jair con 10.60; sin embargo, la calidad y el tamaño de la ola que abrió para la final tenía el nombre de Jair desde antes de iniciar. Anthony cerró tercero y Olman cuarto.
Por su parte Leilani, campeona nacional en 2016, venció por una ventaja considerada una final donde sumó 11.50 a la actual campeona Rubiana Brownell que cerró segunda, Lisbeth Vindas tercera y Paula Duarte cuarta.
Como dato a tomar en cuenta, la dirección técnica del campeonato está valorando la posibilidad de incluir más categorías en el Circuito a partir de la siguiente fecha. Este anuncio se dará a conocer en los próximos días.
Además, de manera confirmada la Federacion de Surf ejecutará la Final del Rip Curl Grom Search 2019, campeonato mundial que junta a varios de los mejores juniors del mundo. Ya se supo que los ocho mejores sub 16 del país hasta después de la fecha de abril en el CNS, tendrán una invitación para participar.
En este sentido los cuatro mejores Boys (sub 16) y las cuatro mejores Girls (sub 16), irán directo al campeonato que se pretende llevar a cabo en Playa Jacó a mediados de mayo.
La próxima parada del Circuito se va a playa Cocles de Puerto Viejo, los días 23 y 24 de febrero se va a correr la Copa Marley.
