The locals from Pavones de Golfito and Puerto Viejo de Limón, Noe Mar McGonagle and Paulina Summers Víquez, won the Almonds & Corals Cup, second stop of the Scotiabank National Circuit that presents kölbi in Puerto Viejo de Limón.
On a complicated wave that broke below one meter today, Noe Mar won the final over Oscar Urbina, Maykol Torres and Cedric McCrakin, while Paulina Summers won the final over Lisbeth Vindas, Rachel Agüero and Auxiela Ryan.
Noe Mar, Oscar Urbina and Cedric McCrakin, the latter two, locals who showed total knowledge of the wave when qualifying for the men’s open final, passed through the first place of the men’s final. However, Noe Mar was more, after adding 12.00 points (5.67 + 6.33) compared to 10.46 Cedric, 10.27 Oscar and 7.27 Maykol.
“I am very happy to win this date here in Puerto Viejo that always receives me super well. I take this as the best training I could have for the WQS where I am going with all this year. It is amazing to compete against talents so young that we have in Costa Rica, ”said Noe Mar. This victory gives the first 1,500 points to Noe Mar in a ranking in which Oscar Urbina will remain in the first position thanks to his double qualification at the Open final, that is, he will wear the yellow jersey on the next date at Playa Guiones on March 22 and 23.
Meanwhile Paulina who had already won the Junior win, and in the final minutes of the Open final, Lisbeth Vindas went down to second place in the heat, and was short of winning. Paulina, with her surfing and local knowledge, won the Circuit stop for the second consecutive year.
“The Cocles wave is quite changing due to the currents and the sandbar, because of that I was able to take advantage of my knowledge and leave the gold here my house,” said Paulina.

Noe Mar McGonagle and Paulina Summers ganaron el Almonds & Corals Cup en Playa Cocles
Los locales de Pavones de Golfito y Puerto Viejo de Limón, Noe Mar McGonagle Cada y Paulina Summers Víquez, ganaron hace unos minutos la Copa Almonds & Corals, segunda parada del Circuito Nacional Scotiabank que presenta kölbi en Puerto Viejo de Limón.
Sobre una complicada ola que quebró por debajo del metro de altura hoy domingo, Noe Mar le ganó la final a Oscar Urbina, Maykol Torres y a Cedric McCrakin, mientras que Paulina Summers le ganó la final a Lisbeth Vindas, Rachel Agüero y a Auxiela Ryan.
Por el primer lugar de la final del masculino pasaron Noe Mar, Oscar Urbina y Cedric McCrakin, estos últimos dos, locales que demostraron el conocimiento total de la ola al clasificarse a la final del open masculino.
Sin embargo, Noe Mar fue más, tras sumar 12.00 puntos (5.67 + 6.33) frente a los 10.46 de Cedric, los 10.27 de Oscar y los 7.27 de Maykol.
“Muy contento de ganar esta fecha aquí en Puerto Viejo que siempre me recibe súper bien. Esto me lo tomo como el mejor entrenamiento que podría tener para el WQS donde voy con todo este año. Increíble competir contra talentos tan jóvenes que tenemos en Costa Rica”, dijo Noe Mar.
Esta victoria le da los primeros 1.500 puntos a Noe Mar en un ranking en el que, Oscar Urbina seguirá en la primera posición gracias a su doble clasificatoria a la final del Open, es decir, vestirá la camiseta amarilla en la próxima fecha de Guiones el 22 y 23 de marzo.
Por su parte Paulina que ya se había hecho del gane en Junior, en los últimos minutos de la final Open, bajó a una Lisbeth Vindas al segundo lugar en el heat que estuvo a poco de ganarlo. Pero Paulina con su surf y también conocimiento local, ganó por segundo año consecutivo en su casa la parada del Circuito.
“La ola Cocles es bastante cambiante por las corrientes y el banco de arena, por dicha pude aprovechar mi conocimiento y dejar el oro aquí mi casa”, dijo Paulina.
