Catching waves in El Salvador
The Ocean in My Heart

When I am in Tamarindo I like staying close to the center of town so I don’t need to walk far to go to my favorite surf breaks in town. CSI – Coastal Spanish Institute – is located right on the beach near the main coastal intersection. The school is located on the second floor, which allows for cool breezes and less noise from the street to distract its students. And their private accommodations are located on the third floor, with a view of the beach and the tropical canopy.

I had dropped by to visit the one of the owners, Dana Garrison, who I had known for over 20 years – I had actually studied Spanish at one his schools located in Dominical. Also there was an old friend, Junior Montoya, who was a counselor for a recently concluded teen Spanish summer camp. They invited me to stay the weekend at the studio apartment and see how comfortable it would be staying there. After the first night, I didn’t want to leave.

My studio had a tempurpedic queen bed and a bunk bed. The kitchen was completely accessorized so I could make my own coffee in the morning and stock fruits and leftovers in the fridge. The surf is right out back, and right after the shower felt great. I could have turned on the a/c, but the ceiling fan and having the back sliding doors wide open kept the place cool. In the afternoon and early evening there was some mellow live music from the restaurant next door, but it would just be the sounds of the waves at night.

Right next to my apartment was a 2 bedroom apartment. The master had a queen bed with tempurdedic mattress and the 2nd bedroom had a bunk and a single bed. It is perfect for a family with up to five people. It also with a complete kitchen and furnished living room. Then down the hall were another three rooms, each with a different bed configuration to accommodate different numbers of guests. Dana had explained that a group of up to 25 could rent the entire floor and rooms could be connected. The three main apartments each had number coded locks so I didn’t need a key for my apartment. However it is quite safe with a strong steel gate on the bottom and second floors with a key entry. During my stay I only briefly saw my neighbors and I did not hear them in the evening.

I highly recommend these apartments for single, couples, families, or groups who are visiting Tamarindo and want a safe, comfortable, centrally located place to stay. Contact us for reservations.
