Dominical Opens this Weekend – Season 20 of the Scotiabank National Circuit

The 2000 – 2001 season won by surfers Federico Pilurzu and Lisbeth Vindas will be remembered as the beginning of the official surfing that arrived in Costa Rica after the creation of the Surf Federation that year.
 
20 years later, in this 2020, Dominical Beach will be the wave that inaugurates the Scotiabank National Circuit season that Kölbi presents this weekend with the arrival of more than 200 competitors who will come from all parts of the country.
 
With the motive and the dream of making a good season of 7 dates that ends in July and of qualifying for the Olympic Games, from all parts of the country the best of this sport go to one of the best beach breaks (sand bottom) in the nation.
 
The event will take place in front of the Tortilla Flats restaurant.
 
In fact, for this weekend waves are expected at shoulder and head high, ideal for a contest that opened this year with 15 categories which include the two novelties that are the children’s sub 8 and the Adapted Surf.
 
Another of the divisions that return is the category older than 45 years or Kahuna, after that in 2018 and 2019 the Circuit received the older than 35 years with a high demand, which is why the management has opened a space for the new category with the oldest age in the championship.
 
Thus, the national champions will start this championship with the goal of defending a title that has been attained by very few surfers in the country.
 
“For high performance surfers this year is fundamental because they can fulfill a great Olympic dream. The national team for the World Cup in El Salvador next May will fight for places that lead to the Tokyo Olympic Games, which is why, on behalf of everyone, we expect no less than 100 percent in each of their heats, ” said Randall Chaves, President of the Federation.
 
This year the national team will be three men and three women for the World Open. These selected will fight for a place in women and two in men for the Olympic Games.
 
“This year, we will have two trainings in El Salvador with the national preselection and one more training in Costa Rica. We will start on February 2 until the 5th of the same month,” he added.
 
Several of these selected could leave the National Surf Circuit, as well as those that run international events.
 
“In Scotiabank, as official sponsors of the National Surf Circuit, we want to wish the greatest success to all the athletes who will participate in this important tournament, especially the younger competitors, who will premiere the category for children under 8 years. Dominical abre este fin de semana la temporada 20 del Circuito Nacional Scotiabank

La temporada 2000 – 2001 que ganaron los surfistas Federico Pilurzu y Lisbeth Vindas será recordada como el inicio del surfing oficial que llegó a Costa Rica tras la creación de la Federación de Surf ese año.

20 años después, en este 2020, será playa Dominical la ola que inaugure la temporada del Circuito Nacional Scotiabank que presenta kölbi este fin de semana con la llegada de más de 200 competidores que acudan de todas partes del país.

Con la consigna y el sueño de hacer una buena temporada de 7 fechas que termina en julio y de clasificar hasta unos Juegos Olímpicos, desde todas partes del país los mejores de este deporte se dirigen a uno de los mejores beach breaks (fondo de arena) de la nación.

El evento se llevará a cabo frente al restaurante Tortilla Flats.

De hecho, para este fin de semana se esperan olas a la altura de los hombros y a la cabeza, ideal para una contienda que se abrió este año a 15 categorías donde figuran las dos novedades que son el infantil sub 8 y el Surf Adaptado.

Otra de las divisiones que regresan es la categoría mayor de 45 años o Kahuna, después que en 2018 y 2019 el Circuito recibiera a la mayor de 35 años con una alta demanda, razón por la cual la dirección, ha abierto un espacio para la ahora categoría con más edad del campeonato.

Así, los campeones nacionales iniciarán este campeonato con la meta de defender un título que tienen muy pocos surfeadores en el país.

“Para los surfeadoras de alto rendimiento este año es fundamental porque pueden cumplir un gran sueño olímpico. Los seleccionados nacionales para el Mundial de El Salvador de mayo próximo lucharán por plazas que llevan a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio, es por eso que, de parte de todos, no esperamos menos que su 100 por ciento en cada uno de sus heats”, dijo Randall Chaves, Presidente de la Federación.

Este año los seleccionados nacionales serán tres hombres y tres mujeres para el Mundial Open. Estos seleccionados lucharán por una plaza en femenino y dos en masculino para los Juegos Olímpicos.

“Este año, tendremos dos entrenamientos en El Salvador con la preselección nacional y un entrenamiento más en Costa Rica. Empezaremos el 2 de febrero hasta el 5 del mismo mes”, añadió.

Varios de estos seleccionados podrían salir del Circuito Nacional de Surf, así como los que corren los eventos internacionales.
