AREA REPORTS

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 12/16 - We are enjoying perfect morning surf conditions to match our shoulder, to just overhead, constant swell.  Tamarindo has been breaking with the westerly direction of the swell and some of our guests have been scooting down the service road to the Tamarindo Estuary to surf some great chest high waves.  The crowd comes and goes and there have been hours of uncrowded peaks every day.  We expect more of the same as the tides move into the afternoon during the week before the holiday crowds arrive the day after Christmas.

Tamarindo

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 12/17 - Off shore winds are back to the North Pacific Coast, Tamarindo's river mouth epic rights are lit with the fading mix of SSW and NW swell, 2-3ft within the change of tides, sand bars are very crowded, although there are waves for all, point breaks like Henrry's and Pico Grande are activated and consistent, giving plenty of room to the more advanced surfers. Be aware of the consistent winds, because its direction pushes people off to the rocky points. Casitas at Playa Grande, has been working with the swell direction with solid 3 ft waves, uncrowded line up and slightly sheltered from the strong gusts of wind. Totally worth the $2 round trip on the taxi boat, to avoid the river local (crocs) and have fun away from the beginners in Tamarindo.

Try out surfing and check your bucket list this winter, 2 hours entry level surf lessons in Tamarindo, ISA certified coach at Seafari Costa Rica. The classes will be carried out during the day's best tide and we do our best to meet the individual requirements and interests of each participant.
