Low Tide: -.99 feet at: 10:32 a.m.
High Tide: 9.77 feet at: 4:52 p.m.

New Moon - January 5th

National Forecast

Caribbean 4-6 ft. 4-5 ft. 5-7 ft. 9-12 ft. 9-12 ft. 9-11 ft. 7-9 ft.
North Pacific 1-2 ft. 2-3 ft. 4-5 ft. 3-4 ft. 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-4 ft.
South Pacific 1-2 ft. 2-4 ft. 3-5 ft. 3-5 ft. 3-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 3-4 ft.

Caribbean - The surf will drop down a foot to head high for Tuesday and Wednesday, but then another ENE arrives, this time with bigger waves, reaching double overhead by Saturday and Sunday on the reefs and 2-3 feet overhead at the beach breaks. It will drop a couple of feet by next Tuesday, but more swell should follow.
Pacific - A decent sized Southwest swell arrives late Wednesday (2 ft at 16sec) and brings head high waves to most of the coast. It stays chest to head for the rest of the week, and a SSW swell (2.4 ft at 12 seconds) keeps it that size for the weekend and into the New Year. A bigger SW arrives next Saturday pushing in 1-2 feet overhead waves (if the models stay accurate).

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 12/24 - The surfing tides are in the afternoon now and should start moving into the morning slot before this weekend.  The wind is off-shore all day, almost every day, and the waves have been small and good in the head high range on the better sets with light crowds and warm water.  The swell has had enough west in it to keep the Tamarindo crowd at home.   Be ready to party after Christmas day.

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 12/17 - Off shore winds are back to the North Pacific Coast, Tamarindo's river mouth epic rights are lit with the fading mix of SSW and NW swell, 2-3ft within the change of tides, sand bars are very crowded, although there are waves for all, point breaks like Henrry's and Pico Grande are activated and consistent, giving plenty of room to the more advanced surfers. Be aware of the consistent winds, because its direction pushes people off to the rocky points. Casitas at Playa Grande, has been working with the swell direction with solid 3 ft waves, uncrowded line up and slightly sheltered from the strong gusts of wind. Totally worth the $2 round trip on the taxi boat, to avoid the river local (crocs) and have fun away from the beginners in Tamarindo.

Try out surfing and check your bucket list this winter, 2 hours entry level surf lessons in Tamarindo, ISA certified coach at Seafari Costa Rica. The classes will be carried out during the day's best tide and we do our best to meet the individual requirements and interests of each participant.

Manuel Antonio / Dominical

Special: Still need a gift for the holidays? Book an all-inclusive surf camp package before Dec 31 and receive 20% off. Valid for stays through December 2019.

Steve Fergus at Jazzys River House - 12/24 - Summer surf for the past week with small fast hollow waves at lower tides.  Size picks up at higher tides and conditions remain good with fairly clean straight lines unless the wind interferes causing chop and other wind related problems.  Blue sky and bright sun have plagued mid-day surfing so take care of your skin.  Playa Hermosa and Dominicalito are also fairly clean these days but as always smaller and mellower than Dominical.  Holiday season crowds so far are down from previous years.

Hotel Roca Verde still offers live music each Thursday featuring The G-String Cowboys with their electric fiddle sensation Nancy Buchan.  Come for great food, great music and a beachfront family friendly atmosphere.
Check for specials or come by and see Ruby Kim in her fine art studio/gallery and ask about her popular class - what she calls 'Plant Part Art' and learn the ancient arts and crafts of weaving, twining, plaiting and sewing.  And check with Steve for relief from body aches and pains and strains as his East/West massage therapy can be most helpful.  Steve also offers surf lessons and board sales and rentals as well as private lessons in traditional Taoist Internal Exercises.

Una Ola Pavones Surf CampColin at Una Ola Surf Camp - 12/24 - Ankle to knee high 1-2ft Surf Report:  The surf is pretty small today again but a bit bigger then yesterday. Looking at ankle to knee high waves this morning with glassy conditions. Couple hours before high tide might show some nice peelers on the closer sandbars for a longboard.
