Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 1/1 - The head high swell with daylong light off-shores has been perfect for Playa Grande this week, and in spite of the holiday crowds, has been so consistent and so good that everyone is wearing a gigantic smile.  Miles of peaks are working.  As the tides move into the afternoon this week, we are counting on the all day off-shores typical of this time of the year.  The water is warm and the nights are cool.  The party crowd in Tamarindo, across the bay, are damaging the turtle nesting park with their loud music and lights on the beach.  Also avoid coming to Playa Grande now in a motor boat to help protect the well being of the turtles nesting on the beach behind the surf breaks.

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 12/31 - Holidays and waves in Tamarindo, 1-2 ft at 12 to 14 seconds period combo from SSW and WNW at 8 to 10 seconds, off shore wind all day long, busy line up at the sand bars and the river mouth although waves for everyone. Langosta point breaks are lit up with 2-3ft consistent sets not extremely crowded but you must wait for the right wave to get yours.

Within the new year upon arrival and new challenges to succeed, check out the bucket list and try out surfing in Tamarindo with Seafari Costa Rica special deals:
  • 3 days Surf Package: Private and progressive 2-hour lessons. US$ 216, ask for your special rate for 4 or more private surf lessons.

Surfing NosaraAndres at - 1/1 - Happy new year and blessings people,  another super beautiful morning to start a new year with goals and positivity. The waves are  a great conditions, smolle and fun. Steve Fergus at Jazzys River House - 1/1 - Small surf at lower rising tide this morning: 3' to 4' still clean and well formed following more than a week of near epic surf in the overhead range.  Clean straight lines, stiff morning offshore, bright blue sky and not one person out.

Playa Hermosa South and Dominicalito a little too small and too mellow.
Hotel Roca Verde is the live music spot every Thursday night starting around 7pm with the G-String Cowboys leading the show with their electric fiddle sensation Nancy Buchan adding extra magic to the band.  Come for great food, great music and a fun family atmosphere.
