Overview
Caribbean - Wednesday and Thursday has surf 2-4 feet overhead, but it drops daily after that, leaving only waist to chest high surf for the weekend. More ENE swell is expected though for next weekend.
Pacific - An almost direct South swell arrives Thursday (3.8 ft. at 14 seconds) with overhead waves for the southern beaches and chest to head for some of the Nicoya Peninsula. This swell is reinforced with another SSW swell coming Sunday and lasting through Tuesday. Then it's a wait until the following Sunday for more overhead waves from the SSW.

AREA REPORTS
Northern Nicoya Peninsula
Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 1/1 - The head high swell with daylong light off-shores has been perfect for Playa Grande this week, and in spite of the holiday crowds, has been so consistent and so good that everyone is wearing a gigantic smile. Miles of peaks are working. As the tides move into the afternoon this week, we are counting on the all day off-shores typical of this time of the year. The water is warm and the nights are cool. The party crowd in Tamarindo, across the bay, are damaging the turtle nesting park with their loud music and lights on the beach. Also avoid coming to Playa Grande now in a motor boat to help protect the well being of the turtles nesting on the beach behind the surf breaks.
Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 12/31 - Holidays and waves in Tamarindo, 1-2 ft at 12 to 14 seconds period combo from SSW and WNW at 8 to 10 seconds, off shore wind all day long, busy line up at the sand bars and the river mouth although waves for everyone. Langosta point breaks are lit up with 2-3ft consistent sets not extremely crowded but you must wait for the right wave to get yours.
