PIC OF THE WEEK: This week was Mother's Day in Costa Rica. After a trip to Pavones and Punta Banco, I was devastated by the amount of micro plastics I saw there and thought we have to protect Mother Nature first. Photo: GG

Overview
Caribbean - A small pulse of ENE swell fills in midweek next week with a few head high sets but otherwise it's mostly knee to waist for this weekend and next.
Pacific - Dropping South swell with a mix of SSW means waist to chest high surf starting Sunday and running through Tuesday. The SSW swell sticks around at 3 feet and 12 seconds, so some head high waves can be found through Thursday. Then a stronger SW swell (2.8 ft at 18 seconds) arrives late Friday pushing it up to 1-2 feet overhead for next weekend.

AREA REPORTS
Northern Nicoya Peninsula
Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 8/13 - We just completed a week of morning high tides with some blue sky, head high plus surf. The surf tides have moved into the afternoon slot now and the wind conditions are unpredictable. There are sunny days and some rain. The crowds are mostly light with the surf schools hanging down at casitas closer to Tamarindo. Tuesday had good variable wind conditions up until about 2 PM when it finally blew out.
Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 8/16 - New SW swell is arriving, waves in Tamarindo are fun, glassy and soft, perfect for beginners to intermediate surfers, weather is typical for August, random showers along the day, light off shore or no wind. Busy lineup in the afternoons, but the morning birds are rewarded with fun and fast shallow rides at the River Mouth. Avellanas has been consistent 3-4ft, long wait among sets and basically all of the breaks are active with the swell direction. Not too crowded.
Nosara
Eli at SurfingNosara.com - 8/16 - A little dark and cloudy morning with fun waves. The size is waist-high to chest high, and sometimes a good set coming. Monkey Mafia - A LIFESTYLE BRAND, BUILT FROM THE CORE. FOR EVERYONE WITH A DEEP PASSION 4 LIFE. IF YOU LOVE IT. BLEED IT, NO EXCUSES!
South Nicoya Peninsula
MalpaisurfCam.com - 8/6 - This morning at 7 am waves were head high with some over head sets. Light offshore wind and partially clear skies. Pumping waves as the tide was starting to drop, looked kind of bumpy and a bit messy but constant sets showing with some nice waves, should clean out through the morning.
Jaco / Playa Hermosa
Christina at Surf Inn Hermosa - 8/13 - Beautiful day this morning – sun out – head high ++ waves with a mix of SSW/S joining in with a longer period S & SW swell. Fair conditions.

Southern Zone
Steve at Jazzys River House - 8/14 - October comes to August in Dominical! Morning rains, nights rains, all day all night rains are usually reserved for late September and October but here they are in the middle of August. The surf is small - 3' to 4', with mostly poor conditions thanks to the stormy weather. Too much wind, too much rain means choppy water and erratic wave action. There have been short windows of decent surf but inconsistent timing makes it hard to predict. Playa Hermosa South and Dominicalito and Punta Dominical have had their moments of improved conditions but the small size has reduced the fun ratio.
Colin at Una Ola Surf Camp - 8/15 - The surf was small and fun early, but became almost unsurfable once tide completely receded, and the Zancudo winds began to blow out the lineup. We were hoping that as started to fill in again, the winds would die down. However, a storm came through, from the west, turning the seas to storm chop. It was highly doubtful, but the conditions actually cleaned up for an evening session, after a large rainstorm passed through.
The Caribbean
Solspot - 8/16 - 3+ feet with a dominant ENE med-period swell. Primary Swell: 5.2ft. 8 seconds 65 degrees (ENE). East-Northeast med-period swell steady.
