Overview:
Caribbean - Solid ENE through Saturday (6 feet at 9 seconds) with chest to head high surf and a few overhead sets hitting the reefs. It drops quickly Sunday down to waist high and then for most of next week is knee high dribble.
Pacific - A tropical system forming off the coast of Panama will be pushing in short period swell for the weekend, reaching 1-2 feet overhead, but also expect strong winds and some rain. After it passes there is only some background SSW keeping it in the chest to head high range for most of next week. More tropical development is expected next weekend, too.
REMINDER - Costa Rica beaches are only open for surfing from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. unless they are under an ORANGE alert, which closes them at 9:30 a.m. Check our Facebook page for consistent updates.

AREA REPORTS
Northern Nicoya Peninsula
Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 8/10 - The wind has been light off shore for the small (shoulder/head high) high tide, morning surf and everybody is having a ball in spite of the pandemic. For the most part we are respecting the social distancing here and haven’t had any cases in our area. Everybody is spreading out in the breaks and enjoying themselves with so few surfers in the water. There is a particularly good vibe and an apparent tacit understanding that the beach is a healthy place for all of us as long as everybody is careful.

Santa Teresa
Surf Forecast.com - 8/12 - Small surf in the waist to chest high range from a SSW swell (1 foot at 12 seconds). There is a big push from a short period storm swell late Friday that extends through Monday, but the overhead waves will be super choppy and rainy.

Esterillos
Esterillos Oeste Surf Report - 8/9 - The swell came in after 3 weeks plus of really small surf. The surf today was 2-4 ft plus chest to head high with some overhead sets glassy in the morning but with storm passing in the ocean was a little jumbled. Tomorrow's high tide is at like 7 am so should be fun till around 9-10. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit smaller we are expecting 2-4 ft chest to shoulder high with maybe some headhigh sets hoping the storms clear out tonite and swell straightens out a bit should be fun size for rest of the week out front and along the reef seemed to be working the best today.
Southern Pacific
Steve at Jazzys River House - 8/11 - Much improved surf conditions the past few days with head high peaks dominating the lineup during the morning high tide session. Fairly strong offshore and a favorable swell direction have made for good shape and consistently clean conditions overall. Meaty peaks with both sides working has accommodated large off season crowds. Afternoons typically stormy and blown out.
Caribbean
Cahuita Experience - 8/12 - Surf has been pretty small lately but today finally picked up quite a bit. Maximum height around 2 metres with glassy conditions throughout the day and light showers as well. I hears salsa was going off. 2 for 1 surf lessons with Cahuita Experience Surf School. For all of August with 'experience2020' promo code.
