Overview
Caribbean - Not quite micro, but mostly waist high waves for the weekend and in to next week from a medium sized ENE swell. Then it drops back to knee high by next Tuesday.
Pacific - 2.5 feet at 20 seconds from 200 degrees. This means a big SSW swell is headed in this Saturday afternoon with well overhead waves. The swell peaks Sunday and then drops a foot each day through next Tuesday. After that is another bump back to overhead from another SSW swell. Head high plus waves are expected through the end of the month.

AREA REPORTS
Northern Nicoya Peninsula
Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 5/15 -We have been tucking into the bay to find smoother, smaller waves. Out front is definitely too big and disorganised. The off-shores are still holding for the early morning but the tides will be moving into the afternoon this week. It is raining a little almost every day but there is almost nobody here so you can take your chances. Check out the main break on our Surf Line camera.
Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 5/15 - Fun times in May, Tamarindo got lit up with the now fading SW swell, all point breaks during mid tides, and the epic sand bar at the rivermouth within the lower tides made this area THE playground; long lefts of 3-4ft solid and consistent sets, either no wind or light on shore, making it a bit mushy but still strong and rideable; busy line ups despites the time of the year and over cast days which is a relief from the sunny days. Langosta and its semi-secret breaks where on, 4ft solid & steep drops within the mid tides at cave town; crowded with old school locals, there were waves for all.
Nosara
Chico at SurfingNosara.com - 5/16 - Another amaizing morning guys, a little cloudy with good waves, better than yesterday and cleaner. They size are shoulder high to head high, at the occasionally the big good set coming, and offshore wind. If you are in Playa Guiones today visit El Local stylish Farm to Table Restaurant serving Craft Beer & Cocktails. All Meat, Fish and Produced Sourced Locally.
South Nicoya Peninsula
Mal Pais
Solspot - 5/17 - 4-5 feet with a dominant SSW med-period swell. Primary Swell: 3.6ft. 14.6 seconds 213 degrees (SSW). Southwest long-period swell holding with background Southwest windswell on the way out.
Jaco / Playa Hermosa
Christina at Surf Inn Hermosa - 5/14 - STRONG SSW SWELL 5-7ft++ Look to local area standout breaks.

Manuel Antonio / Dominical
Luis at Manuel Antonio Surf School - 5/17 - For Manuel Antonio: Waves are about 2 feet. There is some wind from the south. The rip currents are normal. Best time to surf is high tide. Larger and more consistent waves found in Dominical.
Steve at Jazzys River House - 5/17 - Small and scruffy surf around here lately. 2' - 4' and dumping and often windblown and choppy. Occasional calm windows allow for a clearing of chop and crossed lines and bumps. Unsettled weather usually makes for a restless sea. Thunder, lightning, wind and rain squalls are upon us. We had little or no rain to speak of from Thanksgiving to Easter, a long dry spell. We need the rain. Playa Hermosa South has been even smaller and less consistent than Dominical and Dominicalito has been the little guy as usual.
Hotel Roca Verde and Tortilla Flats are both taking a break from offering live music but the food is still good and the atmosphere is still pleasant so stop in for a quiet evening of fine dining.
Southern Zone
Colin at Una Ola Surf Camp - 5/16 - The surf was looking super fun again, with some overhead sets still rolling through, from time to time. The wind conditions were really clean, and glassy, early this morning, but a light breeze is starting to pick up, as I write this report. I’m heading out now to get some before the tide gets too high, and the wind gets on it.
The Caribbean
Solspot - 5/17 - 2-3 feet with a dominant ENE short-period swell. Primary Swell: 5.2ft. 7.6 seconds 66 degrees (ENE)
