National Forecast

10/12 to 10/18 MON TUE WED THU FRI SAT SUN
Caribbean 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 1-2 ft. 1 ft. 1 ft. 1-2 ft. 2-3 ft.
North Pacific 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-5 ft. 3-5 ft. 4-6 ft.
South Pacific 3-4 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-5 ft. 4-5 ft. 5-6 ft.

Overview:

Caribbean - Dropping ENE swell (4 ft. at 7 seconds) leaves waist high surf until Tuesday and then only ankle to knee high waves through til Sunday. Then another short period swell from the NE brings some more waist high sets.

Pacific -  Chest high surf with a few head high sets are on call to start the week and continue through Thursday. Then a slowly building SW swell (3.4 feet at 14 seconds) will fill in pushing in overhead waves with bigger sets by Sunday. That swell lasts through the 23rd with another long period SSW swell right behind it.

REMINDER - Currently Costa Rica beaches are only open for surfing from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. unless they are under an ORANGE alert, which closes them at 9:30 a.m. On October 15th, they plan to keep them open until 10 p.m., and 8 p.m. on the weekends. Check our Facebook page for consistent updates.

AREA REPORTS

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 10/9 - The rainy season in Playa Grande is almost over and there are occasssional good sessions with glassy and uncrowded surf.  The south end of the beach and Tamarindo saw some excellent surf last week with over head sets.  Most of the States and Canada will be open for travel by the end of the week.  The hotel and apartments are accepting guests now.

Tamarindo

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 10/09 - After a stormy week, today we all went out to surf and it felt good to  see  familiar and smiling faces again. Waves average 1-2ft, high tide at 7am gave us all a chance to enjoy a long morning surf session. Plenty of people in the line up, some schools already received foreign tourists who were giving their best try on the whitewash and were successful at it. Weather patterns are the usual for the rainy season, overcast and random sunny moments during the day.

River mouth has been fun for a group of foil sup-surfers, away from large crowds gives them the chance to enjoy themselves and the recently formed sand bar; waves remain up to 2 ft on the best set, with best conditions within the incoming tide.

Esterillos

esterillos-surf-reportEsterillos Oeste Surf Report - 10/10 - Waves were kinda fun today about 3-4 ft not a very high tide this morning at 7:58 so the higher the tide the better it got. A little disorganized but pretty much typical October conditions. Tomorrow looking for about the same maybe a bit smaller and and again not a very high tide at 9:03 so hoping for it to line up a bit more ... looking into next week looks like the size will be around the same give or take a foot and with high tides going into late morns and midday but should make for a fun week of surf.

Southern Pacific

Quepos/Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio Surf SchoolLuis at Manuel Antonio Surf School - 10/11 - Greetings from Manuel Antonio Surf School we are glad to hear the good news, about the surfing waves are good these days the wave height is around 2 to 4 feet, and the conditions this week we have almost no riptides and also fewer winds in the mornings and afternoons, the best spot to surf this weekend in Manuel Antonio is Playitas beach.

Events and promotions:  ₡25.000 ocupación sencilla= 1 persona (₡40.000 por dos)

Dominical

Steve at Jazzys River House - 10/10 - October storm surf continues.  A few overhead waves this morning during high tide session.  Some peaks but mostly closed out walls amid messy, choppy conditions including cold, muddy water from high river outflow.  Not the greatest of conditions, few out, but an occasional decent ride got pulled off.  No Point action but both Dominicalito and Hermosa South had smaller but cleaner conditions minus the cooler temp and mud.

Jazzy's RiverHouse rental cabina is available for short term/long term rental.  Fully furnished and equipped - on the river - short walk to the beach.  Contact Steve at: jazzysriverhouse@hotmail.com or 506-8420-4406 or 2787-0310.
