National Forecast

Caribbean 3-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 1-2 ft. 1-2 ft.  1-2 ft. 1-2 ft. 2-3 ft.
North Pacific 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-4 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-5 ft.
South Pacific 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-4 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-5 ft.

Overview:

Caribbean - The first tropical storm is forming out in the Caribbean Sea which is sending waist to chest high surf to the beach breaks through Thursday, then it drops back to knee to waist through the weekend, and stays small to start next week. If the storm intensifies then expect more waves by next Wednesday.

Pacific - This week will not be that great for surf. There are two SW swells (228 degrees) - one is very short period 6 ft. at 6 seconds and the second is very small, 1.2 ft at 11 seconds. That means surf will be waist to chest through the weekend. Another pulse of SSW (1.8 ft at 15 seconds) arrives Monday pushing it back up to head high to overhead, but nothing spectacular.

AREA REPORTS

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 10/6 - The junky swell conditions are finally calming down.  There is occasional good surf in the head high range at the higher tides which are now moving into the afternoon.  Although the mornings are sunny and often lightly off-shore, the afternoons invariably bring some rainy spells.  There is almost no one in the water and we surfed fun waves all by ourselves in the main peak last week.  This is definitely not the blue sky conditions we are used to here in Playa Grande in the dry season.

Tamarindo

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica - 10/6 -

Fun waves in Tamarindo, 2-3ft within the incoming tide, morning sessions pay well, clean conditions and not too many people out there. Winds had be shifting late in the morning and stop in the afternoon as the storm approaches the coast. Avellanas is getting the SW swell over the sand bars, 3-4ft on the best sets every 5-6 minutes; clean and smooth rides for every one, wind do switch around 10am.

Sunset Sundays with Joe Hrberk at La Palapa in Tamarindo, from 5:30pm 8pm.

South Nicoya Peninsula

Mal Pais Surf CamMalpaisurfCam.com - 9/28 - This morning at 8 am waves were chest to head high, with occasionally an over head set. Light onshore wind and partially clear skies. Dead low session, kind of messy but with some nice and hollow constant peaks. Just a few in the water, was getting better as the tide started to fill in.

Pura Vida chuck and the Crew at WOW SURF !!

Dominical

Steve at Jazzys River House - 10/7 - Rough morning today: 3'- 4', mostly peaks but ragged around the edges and quite inconsistent. Messy inside, partial side-shore stiff breeze all under low clouds with patches of blue sky. Decent shape to the small peaks with some long rides occasionally. Small crowds – empty beach. Playa Hermosa South and Dominicalito both smaller and not as peaky but similar conditions. Punta Dominical not happening. Mid-day lower tides offered a few small tubes but the usual storm front moved in mid-afternoon to spoil the fun.
