National Forecast

12/14 to 12/20 SAT SUN MON TUE WED THU FRI
Caribbean 2-4 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-5 ft. 4-5 ft. 4-5 ft.
North Pacific 1-2 ft. 1-2 ft. 1-2 ft. 1-2 ft. 1-3 ft. 3-4 ft. 3-4 ft.
South Pacific 1-3 ft. 1-3 ft. 1-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-3 ft. 2-4 ft. 2-4 ft.

Caribbean - Dropping swell from the ENE, 5 feet at 8 seconds, leaving waist high waves at most breaks through Monday. Then a new 9 sec. ENE swell arrives pushing it back up to chest to head high, with a rare overhead set by Friday.

Pacific - Not much swell action this weekend and through the start of next week as a minor SSW swell 1.1 feet at 11 seconds brings only knee to waist high waves. However, there is a 1.4 feet WNW swell at 14 seconds that may send some chest to head high sets later in the week so keep an eye on the beach.

Northern Nicoya Peninsula

Playa Grande

Hotel Las Tortugas

Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas - 12/11 - Playa Grande is beautiful right now with cool nights and hot, off-shore days.  The swell is running at the usual December head high range, and in spite of the crowds, everyone is getting plenty of good waves with the consistent swell and high quality shape.  The tides will swing into the morning sessions next week and we should have great Christmas holiday conditions in spite of the solstice tides.

Alejandro at Seafari Costa Rica -12/11 - Small conditions in Tamarindo, 1ft within 3-4 minutes in between sets, really fun rides for longo boarder and very easy to catch for beginners,  winds are more consistent, the tendency is to increase speed towards the end  the month. Good timing to remind all surfers to practice safety in the water, Head Cover is one trick that will keep you away from the Doctor's office. Sunny days and crowded sand bars every day, be patient and paddle out to catch better waves.

Langosta and Avellanas had bee fun spots to use the long board on a less crowded break, same wind conditions as usual for these days.

South Nicoya Peninsula

Mal Pais Surf CamMalpaisurfCam.com - 12/11 - This morning at 7 am waves were waist to chest high. Light off shore wind and mostly cloudy skies. Nice conditions, low tide, fast and hollow. Some barrels, lots of fast close outs, might get better when the tide turns and starts to raise, still some fun ones on the sets.

Santa Teresa

Kina Surf Shop - Santa TeresaEric at Kina Surf Shop - 12/4 - Waves- dawn patrol had waves chest to head hi with moderate offshore winds. Fun early but died out a bit with the tide getting kinda fat. Some nice peaks on the right sandbar at the beachies.

Southern Pacific

Steve at Jazzys River House - 12/12 - Lower tide morning session today was small; 3'-4' and clean.  Light offshore and almost glassy but a wee bit closed out.  Not much for barrels or long rides but fairly consistent.  Somewhat peaky and quite uncrowded. Hermosa South and Dominicalito smaller but fairly clean and The Point too small.  All this under partial blue skies tending to cloud up and rain in the afternoons still.  Slowly we're shedding the cloak of winter rains.

Check www.jazzysriverhouse.com for low season discounts and specials.  Or come by and visit fine artist Ruby in her home studio/gallery and ask about her popular class which she calls 'Plant Part Art'.  Learn the ancient crafts of weaving, twining, plaiting and sewing.  See Steve if you're troubled with back pains, sore muscles and stiffness.  His East/West massage therapy can be most helpful.  Steve also teaches surfing and buys, rents and sells boards.  Steve also offers private instruction in 'Traditional Taoist Internal Exercises'.

Quepos/Manuel Antonio

Manuel Antonio Surf SchoolLuis at Manuel Antonio Surf School - 12/12 - The wind will stay 6 to 8 kilometers per hour during the day. The height of the wave will remain between 0.5 to 0.9 meters. Same for Dominicalito. For beginners best spot to surf is here in Manuel Antonio during the rest of the day. In Dominicalito best time to surf 12:00 mid day.

Una Ola Pavones Surf CampColin at Una Ola Surf Camp - 12/11 - The surf was small, but fun, today with waist to chest high waves at the top of the point on the mid tide upswing.  We had clean, and glassy, wind conditions most of the day.

Salsa Brava

Caribbean surf forecastSurf Forecast.com - 12/12 - Dropping ENE swell - 2.1 meters at 9 seconds, bringing head high to overhead surf, smaller at the beach breaks.
